How to Get Rid of Back Acne
Back acne is more difficult to treat than facial acne because it spreads over a wider area. Because of the large area covered, cleaning and medication become more challenging. The skin on your back is also tougher than the skin on your face, so getting rid of acne requires more effort. Back acne is worse than facial acne in terms of the number of cysts and pustules that can exist.
The Culprit
Back acne is caused by the overproduction of sebum. Your sebaceous glands tend to work double time during your puberty years or during hormonal changes. As overproduction occurs, acne comes out of your skin as a reaction.

You will most likely develop back acne if you wear tight clothing. When you wear tight clothes, perspiration is forced, causing irritation.
You can also get back acne if you often carry a backpack. The bag can cause friction against your back and can trigger irritation caused by the rubbing of the skin.
Back to Basics
If your back acne is in a mild state, you don’t have to worry too much yet. As long as it isn’t severe, you can treat your back acne effortlessly by using a benzoyl peroxide gel or cream.
- Wash your back but do not use a regular soap. You should use anti-bacterial cleanser because with acne comes an enormous amount of bacteria.
- Use an alpha hydroxy lotion but make sure to apply this only if your back’s skin is dried after washing.
- After applying the alpha hydroxy lotion, wait for it to dry on your skin. If the skin gets dried, you can now apply around 10 percent benzoyl peroxide cream or gel. Make sure that you only apply this cream or gel on the affected areas. For best results, apply a moisturizer.
If your back acne continue to persist, then you can go a step higher by following these tips:
Back for More
- You need to understand that that there is a world of difference between facial acne and back acne. Do not cure your back acne the same way you cure your facial acne simply because the pores on your face are different from the pores you find on your body.
- The length of your hair can contribute to the severity of your back acne. When washing your hair, make it a point to get all of the shampoo and oil out of your scalp and hair before drying.
- Stress causes acne. You can do so many things to avoid stress. Try to relax and keep in mind that treating back acne is not easy. You won’t see immediate results overnight. Expect to wait for six weeks before you see any difference.
Patience is a virtue indeed — especially when treating your back acne. Don’t worry. When the problem has subsided, the moment will surely be priceless.
