What You Will Need

Your lips are exposed to different substances, pollution and a lot of bacteria. Eating is one of the many ways where you can get your lips exposed to substances, like cigarette smoking.

Your lips are as delicate as your neck because the layer of your lips’ skin is thin. Wrinkles start forming when the skin gets thinner. Your lips’ skin becomes thinner as you age through the loss of collagen. Collagen plumps up and fills in the spaces that cause wrinkles, making your lip wrinkles less visible and noticeable. It counteracts all the free radicals that you may have in your system, waiting to destroy your skin.

Aside from that, your lips have a natural lip balm and when this is lost, it contributes to the formation of lip wrinkles. Your lips’ natural lip balm is no other than the water and levels of oil on your lips. All these become worse when you expose your lips to extreme conditions like wind and sunshine.

You need to take good care of your lips because the wrinkles around them make you look older than the wrinkles around your eyes. Your first step is to drink enough water everyday. If you find it hard to drink eight tall glasses of water a day, use a face moisturizer. Buy one that hydrates your lips more than it does other parts of your face especially if you smoke cigarettes.

Saying Goodbye to Lip Wrinkles is Possible

Of course, you can’t get rid of lip wrinkles just by hydrating yourself. Hydration and the use of face moisturizer are just among the many things you can do to rid yourself of lip wrinkles. Here are some other tips.

  1. When you smoke, the nicotine that you take in damages not only your lungs but also your skin. Start now and quit smoking.
  2. Since hydration is very important in getting rid of lip wrinkles, you can also try using a lot of lip balm to moisturize your lips. Do this everyday and even at night. For males, use a lip balm.
  3. Ameliorating lip wrinkles is possible with the use of cream-based retinol. Using this type of product is most effective before bed time and right after you have taken a bath in the morning. You can also use lotions and creams with alpha-hydroxy acids or AHAs. Since products with AHAs are made of milk, sugar cane and fruit, they become effective products for sweeping away dead cells thriving on your skin’s surface. Aside from that, AHAs help in collagen regeneration.

Then again, before using lotions and moisturizers with AHA, it is best to do a skin test to know if you are allergic to any product or not. Doing a skin test is easy. Just apply a small amount of your chosen product on a small area of your skin and let it stay there overnight. If you wake up without rashes or any sign of irritation, then you can use the product to protect your skin from lip wrinkles.

  1. Exfoliating regularly is a must. All you need to do is spare a few minutes to rid your lips of dead cells twice a week. Exfoliating will remove the dead skin cells that make your lip wrinkles visible and noticeable. With this, new skin cells will grow. Your skin will also look smoother. Exfoliating prepares your skin for a therapeutic cream, perfect for skin hydration.
  2. Limit your stay under the sun. Once your exposure to the damaging rays of the sun is prolonged, your skin cells may be damaged, causing the skin around your lips to wrinkle. The damaging rays of the sun also deteriorate collagen. Remember, the depletion of collagen alone makes your skin look droopy. If you are going to the beach, you should at least avoid sunbathing.

Getting rid of lip wrinkles is as easy as long as you are young. Then again, if you are 58, you may want to undergo a specific surgery, injectable fillers or laser treatments that help you rid yourself of lip wrinkles permanently. Prepare to fork out loads of cash for this, though.
