Category - Infection

This category focuses on infection and how to eliminate it from the body. Some of these infections occur in children or young adults, who subsequently develop antibodies that prevent the infection from happening again.

All types of infection are caused by organisms invading the body. Normally, the body is equipped with enough defense mechanisms to prevent microorganisms from doing further harm. But sometimes, the quantity of the invasive organisms becomes so great that the body exerts a lot of energy into fighting them. This results in fevers, chills and inflammation. Other microorganisms are localized in specific organs when they occur inside the body.

Disease causing organisms that invade the body complete their life cycles inside the host. In doing so, they cause disease or at the very least, discomfort. When they are not dealt with properly, they may continue to multiply, and the host becomes more sick. Viruses, bacteria and fungi are the main types of organisms causing infection.

Some of the things that can combat the proliferation of these microorganisms include substances that can help the immune system do its job better. It is an innate response to develop antibodies that can eliminate infection, but even the presence of these antibodies do nothing to prevent inflammation, which is an adaptive reaction to invading pathogens.

Medicines that have antibacterial substances are the primary solution to the problem of infection. A doctor can prescribe a good antibiotic that can directly combat pathogens and minimize their effects. Antibiotics are prescription medicines, but some can be obtained over the counter. Home remedies for infections also exist. Fortunately for us, there are also some foods that have antibacterial properties, and eating these foods can help prevent infection from going further.

Some preventive measures to avoid exposure to organisms causing infection are also discussed in the articles under this category.
