1. Eye Stye Info

A regular stye on person's eye

Styes are enflamed sebaceous glands (near the base of the eyelashes) and are usually caused by staphylococcus bacteria. They look similar to pimples, but should not be squeezed or pierced as the bacteria inside can spread over the entire eyelid.

2. How to Get Rid of a Stye; Treatments & Remedies

Whenever you are treating a stye, be very careful and resist the urge to pop or squeeze it! Do not rub your eyes because you can easily spread the infection to your other eye - that is unless you want a matching set... :) If your stye does not go away within a week see your doctor about getting antibiotics.

*I repeat: Wash your hands after treatment of any type to avoid spreading the infection

Some common eye-stye treatments and tips

    Dipping the Tea Bag
  • Soften the stye by applying a hot, moist compress several times a day for at lease 10 minutes at a time.
  • The tannic acid in tea is reported to help cure styes - take a used tea bag that is still warm and apply it to the eye as a warm compress.
  • An old folk remedy recommends rinsing the eye with milk. If it works for you, let us know!
  • Refrain from wearing eye makeup while the stye is active.
  • Do not rub your eyes or you risk irritating and spreading the infection.
  • A Woman rubbing her eye
  • There are many over-the-counter stye remedies you can try - see your local pharmacist.
  • Whatever you choose to do - be very careful when putting unknown chemicals on or in your eyes - if you're unfamiliar with a remedy then consult your doctor first.

I put a spoon in the freezer and place it on my eyelid first thing in the morning when it hurts the most. It doesn’t make it go away, but it keeps it from hurting all day!

I have been getting styes for 4 years. At one point I had to go under surgery to remove 3 large styes. They did leave me scars however. If it gets to the point where its unbearable, consult a doctor for an in office surgery which takes 15 minutes.
Reccomendations: apply rice into a clean socks and heat it up. Leave it on the stye for a while n it’ll slowly drain out the next day after a sleep. Don’t rub! It’ll tear your skin open!!
Wash your eyes at least 3 times a day with the warmest water you can take and scrub your eyes with baby johnson’s shampoo. If you do this, try to squeeze your glands and puss will come out.
Ask a doctor for the vigamox eye drops. They leave a nasty taste in your mouth some how, but largely reduce your stye.
Styes are caught through other people. Don’t sleep with any kind of make-up on. Don’t stay in the heat for too long. Don’t share contacts at all. And no rubbing from eye to eye! Styes can be from poor hygene or poor self pampering (washing face, thorough cleaning of one self), from age, and also family inheritance.

  9. November 28th, 2011 at 1:45 pm    Potatoes really work Says:

Put a potato cut in half over the stye and leave for a few minutes, the starch in the potato gets the stye away!!!! It works, I had this stye and it wouldn’t go away for ages a friend suggested the potato and within 3 days it had gone for good, by the way this only works really at the start of a stye and stops it from getting any bigger, it also reduces the redness and gradually goes away. xxx
