1. What are Genital Warts Symptoms?

Genital warts are small pink or red growths that are usually found in or around the penis or vagina. They can be spread to other parts of the body and to other people through contact with the infected area. Genital warts vary in size from barely noticeable to the size of large pimples. They often appear in groups of three or four and may grow and spread rapidly. Sometimes mild pain, itching, and bleeding can occur.

What are Genital Warts?

ALWAYS usa a condom!Genital warts are caused by HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) which is a sexually transmitted disease. If you find that you have HPV don’t be too upset - over half of middle-aged America has some evidence of being infected. In most cases genital warts will go away on their own, but as there is no cure for HPV they could come back. Usually people that are infected wait to see if they spread or go away on their own. If they spread then there are many treatments options to get rid of genital warts.

As long as there are genital warts present, the disease is contagious. ALWAYS use a condom.

What do Genital Warts Look Like?

I will not post genital warts pictures on this page because they are not pretty… There are however plenty of pictures of genital warts here.

Cancer Risk Factors

Certain types of HPV are known to cause cervical cancer, anal cancer, vulvular cancer, and cancer of the penis. Though rare, if you are a woman then a simple Pap test will detect any abnormal cervical cells. If you believe or know that you have genital warts it’s a good idea to see your doctor for regular checkups so any abnormal growths can be treated early.

2. How to get rid of Genital Warts:

There are a few ways to get rid of them depending on how you want to go about doing so. Regardless of which method you choose, you MUST see your doctor first. Here are some of your choices.

Q-TipsTopical treatments. Ask your doctor to prescribe you a topical medication to take home so you don’t have to feel awkward having a stranger perform the application (Unless you like that kind of thing. ;) ) These medications are usually some form of chemical that ‘burns’ the wart off. Such chemicals are only to be used for external warts around the pubic area; not any that are inside the vagina, penis, or the rectum.

Podofilox (Condylox) is one such chemical which comes in gel or lotion form, and can be applied by an applicator that comes with the medicine. If the solution gets on non-infected skin it can cause severe irritation, wash it off immediately. Never use this product for more than three days a week, for four treatment cycles. If your genital warts are still sticking around after this, go back to your doctor for a stronger solution.

Podophyllin resin (Podofin) comes in lotion or gel form that you can use it at home. It is applied three times a day for three consecutive days, followed by a four day break; to be repeated for four weeks. Podophyllin resin can only be applied by your doctor so he can monitor the usage carefully, and check for serious side effects. Some common side effects are burning, swelling, redness, and pain. If you are pregnant DO NOT use this product. Always check with your doctor before using ANY medications.

Surgical Procedures are available, but should be considered only as a last resort. Here are a few of the more common procedures:

  • Cryothreapy – The genital wart is frozen off.
  • Electrocautery – The genital wart is burned off with electricity.
  • Laser Surgery – The genital wart is burned off with a high-intensity laser.
  • Surgical Excision – The genital wart is cut out.

All of these procedures can leave scars, and may be very painful depending on the warts location so choose carefully.

I have been with the same guy for about 9 months now , I am also 8 months pregnant. I noticed like 3 weeks after i found out i was pregnant that i had these small bumps around the lips of my vagina. Now there is a big sore.pimple between my butt crack and my vagina and it has been there for almost 7 months now. Sometimes it hurts really bad , other times it bleeds. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt at all. Ive checked out my b/fs penis and he dosent have anything like this anywhere. What the heck could this be. Im so scared and embarressed to mention this to anyone even my doctor.

  2. mommy that dont need this problem Says:

To the last person or anyone that knows.. whats ACV, and where do u get it???

  3. Alone and Scared Says:

i just found out maybe a week ago that i contracted gential warts. at first my doctor told me that i have the hpv strand for cervical cancer until i told him that i have noticed that i had small white bumbs around my private area and then he told me that i have gential warts. he gave me some cream aldara and i’m telling you, its burns like living h***!!!. there are nights when i can’t sleep or lay down. i’m trying to keep a level head and an open mind about this whole ordeal…..

  4. From the Philippines Says:

i’m glad there are ways on how to get rid of these… what in a world would i do or whom the hell would i ask for if i got this g/w and we don’t have internet coz i’m afraid to consult this to the doctor or to my friends. we all have same feelings after knowing we have these kind of virus, but my problem is, i don’t know where to buy those stuff that you all mentioned.. i’m from the Philipines and it’s not available here in drugstores.. i’m looking for the availability of those meds.

i hope someone could give any idea of other brands of camphorated phenol or other herbal alternatives like tea tree oil..

BTW, is there any other similar to Apple cider vinegar?

And also, does Salicylic acid can realy remove this?

pls answer all my questions if possible. :-( many thanks!

  5. Chynna Says:

    to 26yr old Female;

i am sorry, but your body does usually clear hpv from your system in up to two years. that’s not to say that you can’t contract a different strain of hpv at another time, and then the clock resets. sometimes the warts will linger and be active for a long time, but with these warts, any length of time is too long. hpv is not like herpes in the sense that you don’t necessarily have hpv for life, as you do with genital herpes.

  6. dude Says:

i know this might sound kinda extreme, but what i found works the best is cutting them off while theyre small with a cuticle clipper. it kinda hurts, but they go away instantly and theres no big sore like if you froze it off. freezing is the best for bigger warts. ive had this problem for about a year now, and i think its clearing up. every few months id have to clip or freeze off a few bumps, but not ive got 2 more bumps and i dont see any new ones coming up. just stay strong guys, and pray that they go away as soon as possible.

  7. 26 yr old Female Says:

    To 22 yr old guy:

I hate to be a know it all, b/c I’m not, but you need to be informed that HPV is in your body for life. Usually an outbreak can last from 6 months to 2 years and then you won’t get any warts again unless your immune system is compromised or low. Just because you may have cured your genital wart outbreak does not mean that you can’t spread it to a partner. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for the virus. It can lay dormant in your system for life.

  8. so embarassed.... Says:

i was diagnosed with hpv about a month and a half ago. i had no clue what it was until i did research on it and read about genital warts. i was so worried but happy that i didn’t get it! well soon after i found out about the hpv positive i notice a small bump around my vagina area. than it spread around the same area. i was so scared to have sex with my boyfriend and embarassed to tell him about it but we did have sex once, so does that mean he will get the genital warts too? i’m so embarassed about having genital warts, it makes me feel dirty! what can i do to get rid of them?

  9. 22 yr old guy Says:

Also, to the people saying “you will have HPV for life”, that is not usually true. If you research, you will find out that HPV usually leaves the body in 6 months-2 years in 90% of cases.

  10. 22 yr old guy Says:

I had a couple warts at the base of my penis and on my testicles, and Compound W Freeze Off removed my warts and they haven’t came back and it’s been several months. Compound W Freeze Off is liquid nitrogen, the same thing the Dr. uses to freeze them with. $25 at Rite-Aid and it will get rid of them. Good luck people!
