How to Get Rid of Unwanted Pregnancy

According to a report prepared for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,the younger the age of first sexual intercourse, the greater the risk of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. This is because those who begin having sex at young ages are generally exposed to risk for a longer time, are less likely to use contraception, generally have more sexual partners, and tend to engage in higher risk sexual behaviors such as alcohol or drug use prior to sexual intercourse and having multiple concurrent sexual partners. It must be recognized as well that early intercourse is frequently not voluntary.

Many schools now provide safer sex education to teen and pre-teen students, some of whom engage in sexual activity. Given the premise that some adolescents are going to have sex, a harm-reductionist approach supports a sexual education which emphasizes the use of protective devices like condoms and dental dams to protect against unwanted pregnancy and the transmission of STD's.

This runs contrary to the ideology of abstinence-only sex education, which holds that telling kids about sex can encourage them to engage in it. Obviously the best place to start is to be safe and it all starts with parents. Parents need to be part of their kids lives more today than ever. Kids are losing their virginity faster because of our society and how easy is to find out about sex. I remember when I was 12 I saw my first Playboy, that was huge in the 80's. Today, you don't have to go far to find hardcore porn.

Since sex is talked about more at younger ages, you start to see more peer pressure to perform sexual acts. It is only going to get worse, and again, it all starts with the parents.
