How to Get Rid of Frizzy Hair
October 18th, 2008 by admin
You hate your hair. Your sister, bestfriend, mother, auntie, boyfriend and your psychology instructor hate their hair, too. Everybody hates their hair. In fact, bad hair days seem to form season for everyone around you (Learn these 14 weird but effective ways to avoid a bad hair day). Now that this hair-hating trend is bothering you, you tried to find what the root of this problem is. You spent a day looking at people who hate their hair and you found one thing in common to all of you: your hair all tend to frizz.
You know you're not referring to afro style frizz. Your curly frizzy hair is supposed to be smooth and soft. With this, even the littlest amount of frizziness becomes disturbing. You surely can't wait to experience frizz-free days so here are some tips to help you get rid of bad hair days:
Stick With The Do's
- Use conditioner to nourish your hair. A moisturizing conditioner is best to use after washing your hair with your shampoo. To tame your hair's frizz, a good shampoo and a good conditioner will do. Then again, if you can't afford a good shampoo and a good conditioner at the same time, you should at least invest on a good quality conditioner. Every penny spent will surely be worth it, considering the fact that you don't need serious hair treatments which may be more expensive than a good conditioner.
- If you think a good quality conditioner is not enough, then go for an intensive hot oil treatment. With this, you will need to apply a leave-on conditioner on your hair. Do this for about once every third wash if you are following the three-four day guide for washing your hair. You will surely find your frizz tamed because hot oil treatment and leave-on conditioners replace the natural oils on your hair which may have been removed because of exposure to the wind, sun and other elements.
- Cutting your hair on a regular basis is highly advised. The length of your hair contributes to the frizz. Short hairstyles will help you get rid of frizz.
If you think a short hairstyle does not look good on you, then consult your hairdresser and ask for a hairstyle that tames frizzes. Cutting regularly will also help you of get rid split ends (Tips on how to get rid of split ends), which make frizzes, and the problem in general, even worse than you expect.

- 4. Keeping your hair dry is a must, since damp air makes your hair frizz. Then again, you can't make your hair stay dry all the time. If you think the weather spells rain, bring an umbrella when going out of the house. Cramping your style should not be a problem since these days, there are umbrellas out in the market designed to suit your fashion sense.
- What else do you need but an anti-frizz product? While it is true that frizz-ease products don't totally eliminate the problem, you can be sure that the frizz is reduced. Anti-frizz products won't be enough which goes to show how important it is to stick to the tips given above.
Avoid the Don'ts
You have do's to follow, and of course, a lot of don'ts to avoid. No matter how much you follow the do's, if you don't keep these don'ts in mind, your efforts of getting rid of frizz won't get you anywhere.
- Washing your hair daily is not healthy. Yes, you feel your hair getting dirty from a whole day's work, but others won't notice that you didn't wash your hair anyway (except when it gets overly greasy). Shampoo strips away the natural oils in your hair. When natural oil is stripped off your precious crowning glory, frizzes start to come out. - Chemicals on your hair are dangerous. If you are unhappy with your hair, you sometimes tend to color it to make it look better. You have the tendency to use all kinds of chemicals to improve your hair. Then again, you are only making your problem worse. If your hair is frizzy, then stay away from chemicals that are unnecessary for your hair.
- Exposure to elements is a big no-no for your hair. Wind and sun will surely dry your hair. Expect your hair to frizz excessively once your hair is overexposed to these elements. The best way to battle frizz when getting out of the house is to wear a hat to protect your hair from exposure to the sun, or a scarf to shield your hair from wind damage. Wear these accessories if you know that you will have to spend the whole day outdoors. Hair products that protect your hair from UV rays will also do you good. Choose products with a Sun Protection Factor, also called SPF, to for maximum protection.

- Heated styling tools will make your hair frizz. Curling tongs, straightening irons and hair dryers damage your hair. Avoid these tools as much as possible. If you have to use them for a special occasion, make sure that you apply a protective product on your hair before using these heated styling tools. Ask your hairstylist for advice if you are not sure about the protective product you are going to use.

I have also have suffered with frizzy hair. the best thing to do is test things out. What i have found that works best for me is using very little shampoo, using it twice a week or whenever you feel the need. I also use a lot of conditioner and then brush the conditioner through all of your hair with a brush while you are still in the shower. when you get out, only brush your hair while it is wet or it will lose its curl and get frizzy. Use as little of products on your hair as you can because it will lose its softness and shine. One product that I do recommend though is Agadir Argon oil. Even though its a little more money its definitely worth the money. Spray it on the places where you get the most frizzy while your hair is damp (not wet) and it works so well. My hairstylist also told me to wash my hair with a crappy shampoo or conditioner before getting in the pool because it you hair is wet then it can`t absorb anymore water. Also use protection when you are straightening, curling or blow drying it. One last thing, try to touch your hair as little as possible when it is dry because it hurts it. I used to have frizzy curly hair, but after I started doing these things, my hair has been beautiful if i don`t say so myself! just follow your hair instincts and your hair can be great to!
If it helps…..don’t use a towel to dry your hair it will cause friction that makes your hair frizzy. condition your hair before and after shampooing.
it works.
hope it helps!
Blow dry your hair with a brush, and if you want it to curl it under if you’d like.
I’v found that when washing your hair leave the conditioner in to sit for at least five min. and that has done wonders for my frizzy hair!
