Hang it from something close to their perch. Pepper spray the area where they perch. Mothballs in their perch area. Metal foil tied to a piece or string- they hate flashy stuff. They land on my balcony, but not content with sitting on the railing, they come right into the balcony and "coo" very fking loudly (just fabtastic when I am nightshift as my bedroom window looks onto the Balcony). I also have the same problems - fudbucket neighbours who feed them - an no amount of reporting them is stopping them - although catching them in the act and giving them a bollocking infront of the rest of the neighbours seemed to stop it for a few months!. The spikes will only work on window ledges for me, as I say, they fly right into my balcony and I am reluctant to put up netting - I feel like they will have defeated me and it looks unsightly. So while lying awake this morning (at 06:30 in the blessed AM) listening to them "cooing" and flapping and shitting - annoyed at having to get up to rattle the window to scare them away for all of half an hour - it hit me. Meaning as soon as the fkers land I hit the button and scare them away. They're cheap as chips to pick up from cheap outlets so keep your fingers crossed guys. Shall also try the mirror thing because so far I can tell you categorically the following does NOT work: rice, bleach, screaming, throwing coathangers, throwing away the nest as they build it, plastic bags, whirly things, shouting, swearing, gypsy curses.
