Jeeeezz! I've killed 12 in the last 3 days. I HAVE MORE! I've been up for 24 hrs because the little f*****s are partying it up in my kitchen! They are huge. My pit bull is scared of the stupid things. I have used glue traps to kill 3, the huge toddler sized traps to kill 4 and my American Bulldog killed 5. How many are in a nest? 12 seems a little much! My house is clean but dang it I feel like one of those people on Hoarders!

Sadly, my parents rental house was rented to people who appeared clean on the outside, but let the inside of the house turn into the city dump. There were about 15 dogs or so living inside and garbage piled up everywhere. They weren't taking care of the property nor calling us to fix anything when something went wrong. We trusted the people and expected them to keep the place nice. Fast forward 3 years of renting and the house is a disaster. They are living in squalor. There are an estimated 50 rats in the house right now. We really want to avoid demolishing it, but we are gonna be left with no choice I suppose. We've had exterminators and everything come in there but it's still terrible. No matter what we do, there they are. Any suggestions for a job this big? (other than burning it down which is what we are about to get permission to do)

I have a waterfall made of large rocks and the rats dig inbetween the foam that we hold the rocks secure with ,getting down to the rubber liner and the wires to the lights. can't put poison in because we have fish.

I hear that wrigleys spearmint gum will cause rats to leave if placed in their holes. Also, you can buy small boxes at a chemical company that have chambers where bait bars or liquid can be inserted and locked in. cost about $12 or a cheap one for $3, but the cheap ones are easily opened by pets. the rat goes in but other wildlife can not enter. also, there is a rat repellant called Shake Away rodent repellant granules which i bought yesterday at our local chemical store or try online. I will try this first along with the gum. The gum i put out yesterday is gone, so I added more, today. I have not seen a rat yet today, but it is too early to tell. Also, you can use pvc pipe with a T joint or 2 at each end. make it long enough a raccoon can not insert its hand to get the bait, but a rat can run in and eat it. put the poison well into the pipe. i also understand rats can not absorb vitamin D3, so maybe mix d3 powder with peanut butter and smear deeply in the bait box or pvc pipe. I do not plan to stop feeding the birds, so getting rid of the rats is my only hope. good luck.

I put poison in my ceiling more times than i can count, and i still can hear them crawling around. They keep me up all night. I am very glad that I found this website, i will certainly use these tips. Yes, i realize that they are living creatures, and we shouldn't make them suffer, but i have been suffering for about the last two years trying to get rid of these stupid rats! i am just fed up with them!

I have a rat called Jeremy. since we brought him into the home we have had no rat problems. As long as it is a male the other rats seem to budd of completely. Jeremy does have a lot os space to run around. He can run on the windowsil inside and outside the house. It must be his scent.

We've figured out how to make the glue traps work. The rats have always been able to get free from them -- until now. In desperation, we microwaved the glue traps for about 30 seconds before putting them out. It made the glue softer and much more sticky. Within half an hour we had caught the two rats we were after, and they could not get loose. Hope this helps.

I've had a horrible problem with rats in my house. I thought there was just one and called an exterminator twice. We laid snap traps, glue traps, and those ones with the claws on it. Nothing worked. So I got fed up and decided to drug him with vicodin. Well, he got high and fell into a glue trap...problem solved. Or so I thought. He was not alone. So I got angry and grabbed a container of "Barkeepers Friend", a powdered cleaning agent I use in my bathroom and mixed a whole heap into some "maple and brown sugar" oatmeal. Left it out where I knew they'd find it. Found one dead and another half dead from eating the dead one. So the way I figure it... poison enough the first time and as they eat their dead, they'll die too. I like it because yes its poisonous, but at least I know that it is contained in an area my kids can't get too and it wont be tracked through the house. Good luck!!
