How to Get Rid of a Third Wheel
Scene Number One: Your boyfriend asked you to move in with him, but he has a roommate. Sure, you are fine with that, except when the two of you decided to buy a house and the roommate needed a place to stay, too. You are OK with his promise of just a six-month stay, but when it has been over a year, you are starting to loathe him. The roommate sleeps on the couch and leaves no space for you. He is extremely messy, and he lets the dogs in even after you have told him about the house rules regarding pets.
Scene Number Two: You went to a movie house to watch the film you have been meaning to watch for the longest time. Since you think that this movie is going to be your new favorite, you invited your boyfriend to watch it with you. Now, you saw your boyfriend's best friend on your way to the movie house, who, at that time, needed to wait for his date who will be arriving in two hours. Since he had nothing to do to kill time, your best friend asked invited him to watch the same movie you are going to see. He said yes without second thoughts, since two hours is just enough time to watch the movie while waiting for his date. Inside the movie house, the movie is getting boring and you kind of feel that you want to play naughty with your boyfriend. You hold his hand, wrap your arms around him and even kiss his cheeks. While your boyfriend knows what you want, his best friend just won't take a hint.
Scene Number Three: You can't take a decent photo of you with your boyfriend because “the” third wheel is always in the picture. There are so many things you can't do because the third wheel isn't giving you privacy.
There is no questions asked and no excuses to be made: third wheels are the people you need to get rid of always and forever. The tricky part is how you are going to do just that.
Some Little, Magical Ways
- You can surprise him one day by laying all his things on the lawn or the backyard. It will be best to hire a truck to get his things together, so he wouldn't have any additional problems when moving out. Do not forget about looking for a new place for him to stay, so that you can be sure that he really is moving out.
- Tell his parents that he is being a douchebag and that he is not helping himself at all. Tell his folks that he is wasting his life on everything worthless. He is almost almost absent from work because you see him watching TV all day long everyday. Since you are concerned about his welfare, tell his parents about it and you can be sure that he has a family to come home to.
- If your boyfriend invites his best friend to come to dinner, talk to the third wheel secretly and tell him that you and your boyfriend are celebrating a special occasion. It is your anniversary and you don't need any other people during the occasion except you and your boyfriend.
- Go get him a girlfriend. The reason why the third wheel is always hanging out with your boyfriend (his best friend) is because he is single. If you give him someone to spend the rest of the days with, then he surely won't bother you anymore. Search online for women who are looking for a date. Choose hot girls. Choose nice ones. Make sure the third wheel has a choice for him to be more occupied.
- If you are suffering from a situation like that of the first scene in the beginning of the article, give the third wheel a reasonable date of moving out. If you provide him with a definite date, or if he provides you with that, you avoid dragging his feet and he avoids dragging yours.
Self-Help Articles On Every Corner of the House
Print out a paper containing some tips on how to avoid being a third wheel. Post it on the walls of your living room, bathroom and dining area. He will surely get a hint that he is the third wheel the article is intended for. Being plain bitchy won't help, so you also need to make the article helpful and of course, polite. The article should contain things like:
1. Being around a couple more than being around your grandparents is not healthy. Hanging with your best friend is a part of your daily routine, so it is completely understandable that you find it difficult to stay from him and his girlfriend. Then again, you need to realize that dating has changed everything. His relationship with his girlfriend is creates changes in his time availability for you since they, as a couple, need some time to themselves. Stop making them resent your presence by giving them space.
2. Group activities may help. Find your friends and organize a night out or a picnic at the nearest park. Invite mutual friends. You will feel less of a third wheel if you have other people hanging out with the couple.
3. Your best friend is still your best friend. It is just that you are now only allowed to hang out with him if it is only the two of you, especially if his girlfriend is not “one of the boys” who can play basketball with you. Don't encroach on dating time. Understand that your best friend has priorities.
4. Why not hang out with your other friends and leave the couple to themselves? Do your favorite past time so that you can have fun while your best friend is on a date. The next time you see each other, you surely have many stories to tell. That way, you are strengthening your friendship with your best friend and the couple as a whole, without bothering them in their most intimate moments together.”
The third wheel still won't take a hint? Pretend that he is a cow or a plant. Pretend that he is invisible. Don't mind the third wheel watching you through his peripheral vision. If you want to get it on with your partner, get it on with your partner. Before you know it, he has left the room for not being able to successfully tolerate something that is totally awkward.
