How to Get Rid of Birds in a Warehouse
- The only thing that seems to work well is an ultrasonic bird repeller. We suggest the cheapest ones are sold to keep birds away from decks and porches. They work for warehouses too. These units emit a high pitches sound above what we can hear but it drives birds crazy. Follow instructions provided with your unit to get the best results. Some pest repellers are sold for all pests. May as well use them to keep mice and rats out also.
- You can try dummy snakes and owls (although often birds are not bothered by them). Slightly better are electronic sensor owls that move and hoot. The hooting can be too loud for people working inside during the day so you may need to turn it off. The motion does not seem to trigger security alarms (but might in some circumstance).
- Seal the warehouse where the roof meets the walls. Some birds might come in through shipping doors but spaces in the wall/roof is another source. And sealing these has the added benefit of reducing heating costs. Of course this only works to keep them out if they are not already inside.
- There are bird traps.
- Birds tend to try to escape by flying up so they rarely fly low enough to go out through the door. One way to entice them to fly low is to put bird feed down low. Slowly over time move the birdfeed lower and near the door. Then try scaring them out when they are eating.
- Birds are attracted to light. So at night park a car or truck with headlights shining through the shipping door. Turn off all other lights. Then make noise to scare them into flight.
- If the birds in your warehouse are bats or swallows, you can try BirdBGone. These sheets stick to places they want to hang or nest. For a larger warehouse, these are impractical. Just way too expensive and the labor to put them up would make no sense.
