I live in an apartment building with neighbors two apartments down. they've been close to eviction twice for housekeeping in the year they have been living here. i've lived here two years without a single roach, until our apartment owners came in to put in central air and left a huge hole in our ceiling that leads to a crawlspace that covers the entire building. am i safe to assume that would be what has caused the coincidental first roach sighting in my kitchen? and do you have any suggestions as to how i could secure the hole? i've tried plastic and every form of tape you can imagine, but with pop-corn ceilings it won't stick.

Real exterminator: How do you get rid of roaches in tvs and mechanical toys that cannot be washed? Will putting them in a plastic bag work or does this just cause them to multiply? I have a flea market and someone sold some furniture and toys to us and I have never seen so many bugs in 1 pc of furniture..I am so afraid they are going to come into the store...I left them outside for now....but they are running everywhere...I sprayed with ant spray as that is all we had on hand???? but how do you SAFELY kill them off of mechanical toys? thanks

I have tried everything you can imagine to rid roaches, my husband and I moved into a place that we only seen a few here and there, well the neighbors downstairs said they were infested, next thing you know, its so bad, we told our landlord over and over and he said "home defense max, home defense max" it doesn't work, I have sprayed that directly onto roaches and they just kept on going, needless to say we are so fed up we are moving, but we don't want to have any tag alongs, so any ideas how to keep them from making themselves at home at our new place?? I do have 4 children ranging from 11 months to 9 yrs, I also have cats, so anything that will not harm them would be awesome!! If nothing will work, guess I'm calling in the pros!!!!!

I saw one cockroach 6 days ago, killed and kept the carcass in a baggy. I've put sticky traps under my sink, behind the toliet and near my washer. Not one cockroach has taken the bait. My cats want to investigate the bait as it has a strong smell, but no roaches. Can I assume that was a random roach either brought home by a guest or found by my cat near a dumpster?

I've seen it all here in LA. If you live in an apartment it will take some time to get rid of the infestation due to many food sources and so forth, but in a single family home your control of any roach can be done more effectivly. Use maxforce gel, or any gel that has a *growth regulator (*new roaches born with out sex organs) by using the gel you wont spread them all over your house by using spays. If you just want to rid them and spray, gather all your gear: resperator , use a consentrated chemical mixed with water, a good flash light, a aerosol with a straw tip, to eracticate them from voids, sticky traps with bait placed on sides, and a vacume, use specail vacume bags for air born virus (hepa filter) and a hepa filter for your resperator, they are normaly pink; start by vacuming all roaches, you will see many female with egg sacks attached to their behinds, then spray, and leave gels in every place they dwell. after spraying, go back a week or two later and just gel and glue traps until they are gone; you can go the extra mile and drill holes in between studs in wall voids and dust with boric acid or delta dust; reseach your roach, and their life cycle, the do hatch about every 30 days, so you will not be able to kill them all the first time, and you will not be able to spay on an egg and kill it, so vacume them and throw away the bag far away from your house, seal all drill holes and use all protective gear like rubber gloves. be optomistic, even the rich have roaches, and the rich all have rats, because of their locations the live in are in rat zones, if you hire a prof like myself, and we charge you alot, do the math, ask if he will come back, or tell him to come back, cause he should due to the life cycle of the roach. The price of duing business does reflect the cost of going back. On another note, if your toaster or microwave is riddled with roach droppings, shot gun that nasty thing in the trash.
The smell well you must find the nest and bleach the hell out of it, dont be shy to rip your dry wall off and clean, why not, theres probably a water leak in a pipe thats harboring their activity anyways, I work 12 to 15 hours a day doing this and the formula works, just tackle the problem with facts and a well formulated strategy, keep reseaching and you'll find your way, by the way if I come to a house and smell that roach smell you better believe you have a server infestation, the smell is like going to a pet store that sells crickets, walk over there and take a smell, its a funky smell that is only a sample of the roach smell, well, I hope my grammer is good enough for your reseach becaus Im to tired to do a spell check or review this, cause Im tired and have to do this tomorrow, take care and good luck. One more thing I like sented candles, pull your wallet out and buy some exspensive candles to take away the smell and some oder eliminators that work with cigerett smoke, remember if you cant get to the back of the refrige and clean well drag that thing in the back yard and get your water hose out and cleaning gear and clean like a salor ( I was a salor USN) dont plug it in until its well dry and dont spray on electrical parts ok. anyways later.
The photo of the roaches marked male and female are reversed. The women have a wide body where the carry the egg sac (ootheca) in the rear which as it matures pokes out the rear. The men have a long thin back end with two pointy hairs or something. He inserts that into the female backside for mating purposes. Anyhow, a roach is a roach in any case.
