while studying in Cambodia, i've found that inserting mustard directly in the rectum is an excellent method for getting rid of an allergic reaction to flea bites.

The easiest way to stop fleas from biting is to get some brewers yeast flakes or powder. This can be found at any health food store sold in bulk. It costs just a few cents and a little goes a long way. Sprinkle some on microwave popcorn and enjoy. It tastes good, it's good for you and the fleas won't bite you after you've eaten it. They hate it. Some health food stores even sell brewers yeast flavored popcorn! I've been doing this for years and it really works. I've seen it suggested on other sites that you can mix a little into your pet's wet food for the same effect but I haven't tried it. I'm kind of cautious when it comes to what I feed my kitty without a vet's advice.
If you have a carpet cleaner, a simple mix of water and Borax powder can be used to clean your carpets and will kill the fleas instantly. Don't use the powder without water. It can cause respiratory problems in both you and your pet.

I am really allergic to flea bites. Not the trouble breathing and severe reactions, just the miserable type. Extreme itching, extremely more swelling and redness. It is worse than a mosquito bite on me. In fact I would rather it be a mosquito bite. I am right on top of it with the frontline plus. But baking soda on things also keeps them away, but does not eliminate them like frontline. I have actually never seen anyone more bothered by them than me and my mother. Absolutely horribly aggravating. Must be just really sensitive to them like I am reading others are now.
