I opened my kitchen window and screen (we have a lizard family living outside window) and smeared strawberry on a small rock and placed just barly out side window, then when they all got on strawberry goo i shut the window and the lizards had lunch. P.S but there are still a few flys left did not work 100%.

I did try all the green things to get rid of the fruit flies. They were brought in by my son's bird food for his Cockatoo. Our house was literally inundated with them. We had to hide our tooth brushes. Sleeping usually, meant smacking your face when one landed on you. So not a sale point here what so ever, but it cleaned my house up in two days. Bought Hot Shot Fly detractor. No more flies in two darned days! All gone, just bought two at the time. The I thought, maybe they are hiding out in some other room. So spent another 60 bucks have one in every room now, no more flies. As long as you do not let you kids suck on these things, there is no harm to humanes or animals -only flies.

Here's the yeast trick:

"...Even better, says Barb Ogg of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Lancaster County Extension, is baiting a trap with yeast, a little sugar, and water, because the flies are attracted to the carbon dioxide that is produced during fermentation."

So my newest trick that I have found works best is putting a bowl or tall travel mugs out with vegetable oil in them and then drop a piece of fruit or cut up tomato in them and for some reason the oil drowns them so fast. No need to mess with cling wrap or rubber bands. :)

Just take a piece of double stick tape, squeeze a little bit of fruit juice on it, and wait about a day. Then ZAP most of them are stuck to the tape

Here's how I get rid of fruit flies. A couple of years ago we came back from a long vacation and there had to be a thousand fruit flies in the kitchen. It was gross. First, we vacuumed out as many as we could. I had read somewhere that fruit flies don't like peppermint. I just happened to have a bottle of Dr. Bronner's peppermint pure castile soap. So I cleared off all the counters after the vacuuming and washed the counters with the peppermint soap and water. Do it a few times if its bad. The fruit flies disappeared. I tried this trick again yesterday, and again, it worked. So I thought I'd share it with others. I hope it helps for you. Its called Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap. You can usually find it in outdoor stores.
