How to Get Rid of Silver Fish for Good

Silverfish are small insects with no wings. The name is derived from their silver color and fish like appearance. They may also be called Fishmoths, Paramites, or carpet sharks. They are not the nicest looking creatures to have in your home and you can get rid of them with outdoor pest products. Silverfish live in moist, warm areas. When you find them in your home they are usually in basements, bathrooms, garages, closets and bathroom. They usually do most of their eating in the nighttime hours. Silverfish eat things with polysaccharides in them. Some of these things include: glue, bookbindings, plaster, paint, photos, etc. So, you can see why your home is a wonderful place for them to reside. Here are some ways to get rid of Silverfish (try this silver fish control product):

  1. Silverfish live in damp moist areas, so to eliminate your silverfish problem, you need to get rid of the damp, moist areas in your home. One way to do this is to get a dehumidifier. Keeping a dehumidifier in moist places will help to destroy the damp atmosphere that these bugs enjoy living in.
  2. Mend leaking pipes in your home with FixIt leak fixer putty. Leaking pipes lead to moisture and moisture leads to a breeding ground for Silverfish.
  3. Make sure you keep you home clean and vacuum any cracks or crevices where Silverfish may hide. These pests will find another home if you continue to destroy the one they are living in.
  4. There are treatments that you can put around the perimeter of the inside of your home. Make sure you don’t have children or animals that may be able to get to the chemicals.
  5. Silverfish hate cloves. If you see a place where Silverfish are populating, put a whole clove in that area. Put cloves in cracks and crevices and eventually the Silverfish will move because the smell will be unbearable.
  6. You may also be able to kill Silverfish with a mixture of two parts water and one part bleach. Spray this mixture on your walls where you have seen Silverfish.
  7. You can also pour bleach and hot water down your drains to kill any of the insects that may be lurking in your pipes.

By being diligent with these remedies and keeping your home clean, you will be able to eliminate your Silverfish problem for good.
