How to Get Rid of Crayon Stains
While your kids are growing up, you may find some nasty crayon stains on your walls, furniture and beddings. One quick look at those stains and you know you want to get rid of them.
The method of stain removal may differ depending on the type of stained item. Regardless what kind of surface you are dealing with, remember that crayons are made from wax and can be removed with special products that deal with waxy substances.

The Crayon-Busting Duo
An amazing product called WD-40 can be used to remove the offending swipe of waxy color. Together with a dishwashing detergent solution and some careful circular wiping, your crayon woes will be gone in an instant. WD-40 and a dishwashing detergent are your dynamic crayon-busting buddies. You just simply need to know how to use them.
Where to Use the Duo For
Crayon Stains on Clothes — If you are dealing with crayon stains on clothes, get yourself some white cloth or paper towels and lay the clothing on them with its side up. Spray WD-40 on the stain and let it stay there for a while. After a few minutes, turn the garment over so the stain faces the towels and spray again on the unstained side. At this point, you have to take some dishwashing detergent solution and press it on the piece of clothing on both sides.
Meanwhile, you can watch all these little bubbles do their work. If and when your arms are starting to feel tired, take the clothing to the washer filled with hot water and some hydrogen bleach. Hydrogen bleach is generally gentler on all kinds of fabric than chlorine solutions, making it the preferred choice. With this, your hands will be relieved compared to using products with harsh chemicals.
While chlorine may get rid of these stains, it may also damage your clothes. If you have a laundry detergent with bleach, you can use that instead. Obviously, you do not mix the stained item with the unstained ones since the crayon stains may may transfer to the other items. Rinse and repeat until the stain is all gone. With light stains, you may only have to do this process once or twice but with heavier or more widespread ones, you may need to repeat the process numerous times.
Crayon Stains on Wood — If you are dealing with crayon stains on wooden surfaces like walls and furniture, the same amazing product can save the day. Spray WD-40 on the crayon mark and wipe off with a soft cloth. With a little elbow grease, everything may be back to normal in no time.
Just remember that excessive rubbing can result in an awful mess. wipe of the stain as you would wipe off a surface with dust. If this does not seem to work, or if the stain is still a little visible, use some dishwashing detergent solution and work the bubbles in a circular motion with a sponge.
Crayon Stains on Heavy Fabrics– For upholstery, rugs and other similar heavy fabric, it may be possible to scrape off the crayon. Being a waxy substance, crayon does not get absorbed as readily as liquids. Spray a generous amount of WD-40 and let it stand for a while.
Using a stiff brush, work the WD-40 into the stain and then wipe off with clean towels. Spray some amount of WD-40 on the area again by adding the detergent solution. Work the bubbles into the stain using the stiff brush. Wipe off the crayon bits that you have removed using a damp cloth or sponge. If the stain is still visible, simply repeat the same procedure until it is gone.
On the other hand, you may want to try the specially-made solutions to clean upholstery stains. Of course, you should follow all instructions properly. If you do not follow the instructions, you may end up with a bigger problem.
Crayon Stains on Glazed Tiles — For glazed tiles and similar hard and nonporous surfaces, your task may be easier. These surfaces do not absorb colored wax as much as other surfaces or household items. If, however, the stain fails to be removed on the first try, you must spray the area with WD-40 and wipe the stain off. If the crayon remains, use dishwashing detergent solution and wash the area with a sponge using a circular motion. Don’t forget to rinse.
With sincere efforts and some manual labor, your crayon stains can be a thing of the past. Once you have succeeded, relax a little and savor the results of your hardwork.
