How to Get Rid of Shoes
Your feet rely on a good pair of shoes for comfort and style. After several years of continuous use, your old pairs eventually get worn out, taking up much needed space in your shoe rack. You have the option to throw them away, but by doing so, you can't take advantage of what they still offer. Besides, you initially spent a fortune in buying those shoes, so you might as well claim their remaining benefits.
Donate Your Shoes to Charity
Your old pairs may not be useful to you, but for poor children and impoverished families, they are blessings. Even in their worn out condition, an old pair of shoes can still provide comfort, especially if those who will wear them walk barefoot when traveling. Check the internet for charity listings then contact several institutions. Tell them your intention to donate your old shoes. Many of them will be glad to take your offer, given the help your shoes will provide. Inform your preferred institution that you are ready for the donation. Your old pairs will, then, be picked up from your home.
Personalize Your Shoes
Some shoes remain comfortable even after years of continuous use, which gives you only their appearance to worry about. Other parts of the wardrobe can be improved through reinvention. The same goes with shoes. Best of all, you can apply any theme or impression as long as they match your everyday wear. You can apply spray paint or create collages for sneakers, place decoupage designs to your old loafers, and sew small ornaments to your leather shoes. If you personalize them with style, your shoes might be more appealing now than when you first bought them.
The Recycle Bin, not the Wastebasket
If you can't find uses for your old shoes, the local recycling facility certainly has more than a dozen. The footwear's various components will be extracted then turned into raw materials, which will be used for making an assortment of products. Your old leather shoes are recycled to build leather items, including new pairs of leather shoes. Your sneakers, on the other hand, will be distributed to different product lines. The old pairs can also end up in the hands of charitable institutions, if ever they visit the recycling facility. As you can see, your old shoes go a long, long way through proper recycling, so dump them in the recycle bin, not the wastebasket.
Shoe Repair
Give your old shoes a new do by bringing them to a cobbler or to a shoemaker. The damaged portions of your shoes will be replaced or even altered, depending on your proposed specifications. Inquire about the rates of the shops in your area. When you find one that offers reasonable prices, visit the branch and bring your shoes. In a few days, you'll get your overhauled pair. They, of course, won't beat the quality of newly bought shoes, but you can surely several more years to their useful life.
Shoe Laces are Neat Items for Style
Shoe laces, especially the colored ones from your sneakers, are highly reusable. They have tons of alternative uses that you can take advantage of. Here are some:
- Shoelace Hair Tie - Shoelaces are strong enough to hold your hair in place for hours. Pick a colorful one that matches your outfit then tie it to your hair. Add other colored shoestrings and hair adornments if you want to have a cute, punk-driven look.
- Multiple Shoe Strings - Some people add spunk to their sneakers by using multiple shoe strings and tying them together. The process may be more tedious than the normal process of tying shoelaces, but what's a little effort for a load of style points?
- Book Binder - The shoelace is the perfect binding material for handmade notebooks and greeting cards. It adds an edgy impression to your creation, as it puts your creativity in full display. To use, bore holes at the edges of your handmade book using a hole punch. Slip a shoestring through the holes then tie its ends together. Once done, you'll have a stylish creation, even without applying additional designs. (Learn how to bind a book)
- Collage/Book Cover Design - Collages and creative book covers are known for having unusual items for designs. The shoestring, with its adjustable dimensions, fits the bill for both items. Just bend and form the shoe accessory into a stylish shape then paste it on a surface. Paint your creation with a cool and edgy hue. You will, then, get a collage or book cover that your friends will envy you for. (More tips on how to create a homemade collage)
Shoelaces, in terms of styling, are pretty versatile. With its number of alternative uses, you can keep extra pieces for your creative juices to play with.
